Hey all,
So currently I've got 7 discus in a 72 gallon planted community tank. Water is perfect and everyone is healthy and all but I've got a dominant male problem. I have a yellow diamond, who is mating nearly every week with a blue diamond, who chases everyone except his mate. Whenever I see them, he's chasing everyone. Now I just got 3 new ones, went from 4 to 7, just 4 days ago and they're doing fine and all but the dominant male chases them around so much that they don't get any food. Now I do see them get some scraps here and there but not nearly enough as they should. so question is, what do i do? lolll I have plenty of hiding spots and all but a little puzzled as to what I should do. Btw, he was this way too before the 3 new ones. Here's pic of my tank btw... The quality is cruddy though.

Drop food on different sides to ensure the others get food.

Yeah, I've tried that before but he still chases them around.

Sorry to tell you that is just what animals do. They will eventually work it out one way or another.

When our parrots are out of line, I remind them it might be time for 'parrot stew'.....maybe you can threaten it with a fillet knife!

have you thought of getting a breeder tank?

Haha, parrot stew eh? I've thought about switching up my tank and making them re-establish their territories but afraid that might cause too much stress. How big would an ideal breeder tank need to be? I've got an empty 20 gallon at the moment and a 55 gallon with a turtle in it, but I could easily put the turtle in the 20 if the 20 isn't big enough.

A 20g is perfect for a breeding tank. Is what I use...Bill
