I had the pleasure of receiving some of these beauties from Al. The weather was cold when they came, but they were expertly packed, and they box was nice and warm when I went to pick it up. The fish adjusted well, and are quite entertaining to watch.

You can tell that they are well conditioned, as they make a mad dash to the front of the tank whenever you enter the room. They were much bigger than I expected with full bodies. They are definitely aquatic lawn mowers, as they eat everything you throw in the tank. They have become quite expert at "filter feeding" - catching food that is caught in the flow from the filter. It is funny to watch them snatch the food out from under each other. Often times the little ones are quicker than the big ones.

Thank You again Al,

Adrian

Here is the filter feeding I mentioned...

Just wait til they start showing the orange on their heads.

Overall Discus are more attractive but these fish were my first love, so to speak. I'll always call them my favorite.

Yes adults are something else. Can't wait.

Thankyou! I highly recommend them. They do not grow as large as a lot of eartheaters, so you do not need as large of space as some of them do from my understanding.

Hi Rich, thanks. Good to see you! I think they are from the same batch as yours?

Thanks Pat, I have been enjoying your wilds journal. I think yours are from the same batch as well?

Thanks Ardan, Good to see you too! They are good stock. I am working on a "penthouse" for them, a 125. I would like to set it up with sand and driftwood. Right now I have them growing out in a 75.

Most people end up with 6" fish or so, but there are some cichlid folks on MonsterFishKeepers with 8"+ males. I have three types of Geos right now and I need to get some of these orangeheads from Al. I've fallen in love with Geos just for their unique behaviors and fun personalities.

Thought I would post an update. Everyone seems to be doing well. It is hard for me to tell if they have grown or not, sometimes it seems like they have and sometimes it's like we're standing still. I have been feeding them mostly pellets(Tetra bits and Hikari Marine S) with some of Al's FD Black Worms thrown in. I have been doing 40% wc every other day or so. It is funny because for bottom feeders, they sure do go after food floating on the surface.

Geos aren't really bottom-feeders, strictly speaking. They do sift sand which is how they find food in the wild, but they will eat food out of the water column and from the surface. Especially if they were born and raised in a tank where they know their food comes from above. :D

Ah Ok that makes sense. They certainly have that down. And they know how to beg to get you to give them more:D

Nice. I hope mine hand feed within next few days.
They do love digging: have you thought of getting some sand as a substrate?

Thanks. Yes, I have been wanting to get them some sand. I am trying to grow them out first a bit, make cleaning easier. When I set up the 125 I plan on putting sand in. Just not sure when I am going to do that yet. The hand feeding I have just started doing. They are still getting used to it.

A few pics of the ones I got from Al. I am seeing some bickering but that has been restricted to the smallest of the group( of 6). I do see larger two being males (by way of venting):
