Nada convention 2012 - get out your calendar!!!!!

Did you miss the 2010 NADA Convention? Did you hear about the excellent speakers? How about the amazing show fish? Did you see the pictures? Hear about discus friends, new and old, staying up till 4:00 AM talking discus. Were there people there that you have only talked to on line but you would really like to spend time with talking discus? Did you hear about the great auction?

Were you at the 2010 NADA Convention and you know how absolutely great it was. Do you wish you could do it all over again...................................

NADA and the Southeast Discus Enthusiast have set the date. The NADA 2012 Convention and Discus Show will be held Friday June 22nd through Sunday the 24th.

Mark this date in your calendar. Do you need incentive to convince the significant others in your life that this weekend is special. Have you been to the Atlanta Aquarium? How about Six Flags over Georgia? Ever been to Stone Mountain. Make this a family vacation, Atlanta has enough to keep the family busy during the week and they can relax by the pool over the weekend during the convention.

The three J's of NADA (John, Jim and Jerry) did a excellent job planning and executing the 2010 convention. Can it get better than that? Heck yea it can. They laid the ground work and we have a really strong base to build on.

Now that you have the date set on your calendar there is one more thing you need to do. Start working on the fish you are going to enter in the show. 16 months is plenty of time to find that special fish that you want to grow out to be a show winner. You don't have to be a world class breeder to enter and win in one of the classes. The show is fun but I can tell you from personal experience that having a fish entered in the show makes it even better.

So start making you plans to attend. You have 16 months so no excuses. You don't want to miss it!! As the planning continues we will post updates.

That is not always the case. There will be some sellers there like some of our sponsors here who will bring fish to sell and will be prepared to ship. However there will be other individuals there that will not be prepared to ship. For instance..........Howard comes to the convention from XYZ and brings a couple of fish for the show. He doesn't intend to take these fish home with him so he either sells them during the show or at the auction. Howard has a flight out to go back home Sunday afternoon. He does not have the abiltiy to bag, box and ship the fish. In cases like this the buyer will do one of three things. Either is prepared to carry the fish home with them, ships the fish to their home address themselves, or gets with one of the SEDE members to ship the fish for him sometime in the next few days. If you need assistance shipping fish to the auction or from the auction, we will be able to handle that for you. Of course you will be responsible for the shipping charges. We will have more details available when we get closer to the convention date.

You are exactly correct! It's truly breathtaking to walk in to a room and see 75-100 SHOW QUALITY discus, these aren't your pet store rejects but prize fish from all around the world. Even better is hanging out with all the other discus folks!

You will love it. The fish are magnificent and you can buy them! And the people all share the same passion as you do. A NADA show is something to treasure. And it only comes 'round once every two years.

Hans was selling ACA Show fish for between $200-$250 each in DC.

Hans is on the high side with his, although at the last show I became aware of a $400. asking price for a fish. The fish was worth it. It won People's Choice, and one of the 3 judges wanted it to be BIS. Thank God it wasn't what I was looking for.

Up to now you can figure on a $200. price tag. Be prepared to pay more if you have your heart set on a fish with a high price tag.

I hope that the sellers don't decide to charge what these fish are worth based on the comment of a lone poor woman who has been cursed with good taste. I'd have nowhere else to buy and would have to quit Discus.

The Best in Show at the ACA this year was not for sale either, ask Chad he would have bought it. Most others sell for what they would sell for prior to the show. The prices Han's was asking at the ACA was the same price you would have paid if you bought it from his fish house.

VERY CLOSE. We do have the hotel confirmed and the Website is very close to being launched. We had hoped to have it out this weekend but it is going to be just a little longer. We need to finish setting up the links for registration and we are waiting on the hotel to have the link set up for the hotel registration. Please be patient. Remember, this is all volunteer hours going into this. It won't be much longer. LOL, we do want to get you registered as soon as possible.

I sold the spotted class winner for $400.00 months after the show. It nearly died in transport as it arrived in a nearly emptied open bag, the day I was admitted to the hospital.

Before the show Mr. Goh priced three show fish to me for $1200.00 each. All leopards and all had taken first prizes at Asian shows. IMO $400.00 is cheap for show quality fish and I must not be the only one who feels this way seeing how fast Kenny sold those show quality reds a couple months back. By far the best red fish I had laid my eyes on. If I had the money I would have bought all of them.

I don't have this kind of money though so I would have a hard time paying even $200.00 for a show fish in this economy.

I'm poor, but I was willing to pay that much for the fish that I bought. Mike knows. He asked how much I would pay for her. I said, "as much as necessary but as little as possible". Apparently he took pity on me. Poor as I am I would have paid $400. I don't know how, but one day I will reciprocate.

You must have died a thousand deaths waiting to find out that your beautiful PE survived. Know now why I say,"shipping is cursed". The bad luck seems to befall the most important ones...
