My brother showed up at my door with this thing! So I had to snap some pics and go with him to get her Certified. Here are the photos I snapped. Just thought I would share for the Fisherman on the board:)

Unusual to see a papermouth that big. In fact, I don't think I ever saw one that big. Great catch!

That's about average for a crappie. Good eating for a fish fry. I used to catch them by the truck load (literally) full in Arkansas. Some were bigger than large mouths I used to catch.

I need to know where you fished if this is an average one! It's not to far off the kansas state record that is 54 years old.

in the second picture it looks as if the angel is seeing it as a warning as to what could happen to him.

Nice! I caught a 16" crappie in a pond on a golf course right outside of Middletown, Pa. That was a nice surprise. Most of the crappie out of there were 9-11".

Most of the ones here in CT are max about 7-8 " , only once have I caught one that was close to 13"...This summer I plan on trying to catch a couple smaller ones for a tank.

This was the largest out of 60 he caught yesterday. Most were in the 12-14" range. Our Bass are tiny in Kansas but the Crappie are nice. A big Largemouth here is 5 lbs. We regularly catch them in the 6-8 lb. range out of the pond this fish came from. It is an old quarry pond thats 10 acres and about 60 ft deep.

Same here. You don't see really big ones caught. Too much fishing pressure I guess.

What a thumper. Must have been a thrill seeing it after catching many smaller ones..Do you know if it was caught on bait? Or did a lure do all the damage? And may l ask why the reason for having the weight 'certified'?
Cheers

It was caught with a lure. We had the weight certified so he has proof how big it is. He is going to submit it for a Master Angler Award.

Eddie, you must had had the Crappie honey hole! They do tend to not be that big on average...especially for the White Crappie. Black Crappie tend to get the biggest out of the two. I have a "slab" Black Crappie hanging on my wall caught out of the Mississippi River, Illinois side. Caught nice ones from Rend Lake, Il as well. Typically, a 14"+ is a "decent" catch...Bill

Yeah man, we used to bring home a Coleman cooler full each person. I think max take home per person was 30. Half of those were easily 15 inchers too! Never seen crappie that big, even on the the typical fishing shows.

Oh man, is it fishing season already?? I never fished for crappie, but they do like my walleye minnows. Wouldnt mind one that size :) Good catch.

we get a lot of dinner plate sized black and also white crappies soon after the ice melt. But that one's a brute!... season's a month away; hard to believe with this much ice still on the lake...

NICE !!
I love fishing in Kansas (live in Colorado)
We go out every April to Wilson, Webster or Cedar Bluff, mainly for stripers and wipers, but do spend some time filleting crappie, walleye and white bass.
