Hey guys, my recent trip to the disease section for the forum made me realize that a scope would be a very useful tool. So what would you recommend? Also one that can take pictures would be super useful for second opinions (I bet pricey too).

I just posted this somewhere else, but..there's 36 pages of 'scopes on ebay..some for around 125.00 or so that even come camera equipped....I found an 89 dollar cheapie there I'm ordering soon..my old one is like a 50's student thing; breaks slides quicker than a chicken on a junebug.....

Gary, I saw your post regarding the scopes on ebay in another thread and took a look and like you said, there's a bunch. But I know nothing about scopes so figured I would ask here first :)

+1

I have one with 2000x magnification that I will never use to its full potential in the fish room. 400x takes care of most things in our hobby.

"American Scope" is a good brand. We used them in quality control at a company I once worked for. They were attached to digital cameras so that a photo could be printed of the magnified sample, and stored with the file. They worked great.

Yup that's the place. I have one from there. Looks like they are having a sale so prices are good.

If one of you is interested in buying a used one I have a binocular with stage 1000x zoom that I don't use that I can let go of cheaper than the sale price. Pm me if u want it.

On the camera side of this anyone suggest a "good enough" pixel resolution for identification of the bugs which inhabit our discus.

I was able to put a digital camera up to the lens of the scope and take clear enough pictures to cross reference with online pictures.

I'm no expert, but most of the cameras that I've seen made for scopes were 5 mega pixels. You can also get adapters for scopes that attach a regular camera to the scope.

I found the B100A-MS scope cheaper on E-bay. The link above sells for $189 + 21.00 to ship= $210.00 total. There is a power seller on ebay selling for $195.00 incl shipping.
