Hey everyone been lurking around the last few weeks reading up all that I can and learning.

I am moving saturday and plan on using sunday to get my tank up and running. At that point it's time to get my discus.

Plan on starting with some 4-6 juvies depending on what I can get and price.

I plan on starting bare bottom but I did want to add some sort of decor to not make the tank too boring.

What would you guys suggest in the decor department and any other discus suggetions for a new comer to the discus?

Hello broncofan27, you from Co?

In the decor department you might consider driftwood. There is a sponsor (PC1) here who sells it. Are you planning on cycling your tank prior to getting your discus? Since you are new to discus you will find many here will suggest starting with adults or sub-adults (4 inches min.) to start with. Juvies require power feeding and lots of WCs. There is an excellent beginner's guide. Let me see if I can find the sticky.

Here you go.

I am originally from Castle Rock but have since moved to Georgia. I have a local friend who is going to give me one of his active sponges from a sponge filter for me so I don't have to deal with the cycling process. I use to keep Oscars in the past so I do have a good idea of the cycling process.

I really wanted to start with Juvies so I could learn how the young ones work. I am fairly comfortable with the feeding and WC as my gf will be assisting me with this as well if I am out of town for work or something.

I moved from Florida to Co. and back. Loved Co. Since you are seeking suggestions you might see what others suggest before deciding. I started with adults and am happy I went that way. I am getting my first sub-adults tomorrow.

yay, a fellow georgian..... there are some very good discus breeders in the area. You might want to hit up the march fish auction for the atlanta aquarium association. It's this sunday.....

Have you held the sponge only, under water and squeezed the living daylights out of it? ....By that l mean all the air.

I haven't taken the sponge off by itself and tried that. I will give that a shot. Thanks.
