The thread icons

I'm looking at the thread icons (little envelope) and they are different colors, either red or blue, some have paper in them, some not, and some have a lock on them. Please explain how this works.

If you look at the bottom of the page in each section before opening a thread, there is an icon legend.


Icon Legend
Contains unread posts
Contains no unread posts
Hot thread with unread posts
Hot thread with no unread posts
Thread is closed
You have posted in this thread

It shows the pictures and these explanations.
