I'm setting up a 210 gallon tank. wanting to paint the background a more natural color. no black or blue. any ideas or pictures would be great.

From what I understand any light colored pastel color works well.

I just did a tank bottom with a almond color and it came out nice.
I will be using this color again, check it out.

Yes, a light pastel shade could work out very nicely. And then, it could be enhanced, or detracted from, depending on the color of substrate used. Suggest you try out the contrast, or blend if that's what you want, of the two (background and substrate to be used) ahead of time before you do your paint job.

thanks for the info. i'm going to use pool filter sand, and kicking around the idea of a brownish red or a burnt orange. i want it to look as close to a river bank as possible. lots of roots, etc.

If you want it natural then I believe you are thinking about the wrong colors. The Amazon river banks are not brownish red like what you are used to in Kentucky. They are more in the sandy tan colors.

I painted a piece of styrofoam that came packaged with my furniture. I painted one side a light orange the color of my living room, the other a darker apricot. When I get tired of one color I flip it over to the other and if I get tired of those two I can remove the styro and repaint again. Right now the light orange looks like the same color as my wall which was the effect I was going for and it makes the blue in the discus pop.

If you want to try colors out before committing try painted styrofoam. You can get insulation panels at most home improvement stores. You can try out the tan colors and keep trying until it is what you want.
