Hi any kind of snails that can tolerate the high temperatures and won't eat all my plants

MTS, nerite's or assassins.

Nerites lay eggs on driftwood and it leaves a mark that doesnt look good. So if you have a display tank with nice driftwood, be ready to see some spots all over the driftwood over a period of time. I decided not to go with snails for that reason

I had 4 they died, and I think my assasins aren't doing that good in the temperature.

What temp is your tank at? I have a happily breeding colony of assassins @ 85F.

I like Malaysian trumpet snails. they stay rather small, they stay in the substrate 99% of the time, they seem to leave the plants alone, they aerate the substrate, and even better, if you do not overfeed your tank, the snail population tends to stay rather stable. They do a great job.
I have tried over the years and am not keeping any other snail type again!

Best regards,
Harriett

I use apple snails in my discus [81F] and angel {78F] tanks with no problem and they breed like crazy.

I believe they would. I had some of mine at that temp for awhile in a juvie tank with no apparent problems.
Google apple snails and you will get more info then youl'l ever need.

Hi All,

Hope you guys may know the answer to my problem.
I have a pool filter sand and quartz silica sand (sand blasting) in my 180 gal. discus tank, depth 3-4 inch. and live plants.
I have tried a colony of mts snails but they all died. Recently I have added zebra nerites and for the last 3 days they do not move and stay closed. I'm afraid nerites will die soon too.
My temp is around 86, ph around 8, gh = 9 dGh.

Any ideas why these snails die? I suspect H2S build up in the substrate, could it be the reason for snails to die?

Thanks,
Oleg

Snails need calcium for their shells. I would suspect the case of death was a lack of calcium in the water.

I doubt it's calcium, but have a calcium test from Hagen. Would that test give any indication?

I hate snails! Use ABN instead of snails. I had the snails come in on plants and I want to kill them all.

Got the ABNs in the other tanks with otos....so the clean up crew is growing :) Thought to fix my algea bloom using nerites temporarily, but does not seem to work.

I currently have 2 apple snails in my 90gal and 1 in my 55gal. They'll grow like crazy and never have eaten my Anubis. Most people at the pet stores will tell you they'll die in that high of temperatures. However, since mine are more then two inches around I'm thinking their wrong. :p
PS: if you get snails watch for the power filter intake, their gelatinous bodies get sucked in if they decide their going over it.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI could be wrong, but what you probably have are what they call around here, mystery snails.Apple snails grow to the size of,well, aplles, and from what I understand love to devore plants.I had 2 years ago before they died. They are illegal here now.

Hey
snails is not a harmful as you think , and i don't think it is necessary to kill them . You shoul must try it for once . I like the malaysian most .
