I have been doing so much reading about lighting that my eyes are ready to pop out.
I don't have a light fixture yet. The room for my fish is almost completely dark. Not sure yet what color discus I will be getting (probably red/orange/yellow/white?). I can't afford an expensive $500 lighting system. What LED or whatever do you recommend and amount of bulbs? I am looking for that BAM bright colors aquarium effect rather than subdued. Tank is 75 gal. Anything from DrsF&S? Thanks, Christian

Order a regular 48" fluorescent light strip, and a 10000K bulb. Way less than $100, plenty of light for the tank, the hint of blue in the 10000K will make the colors stand out, and you won't do any better for the money.

If you have a canopy or are willing to DIY, a Power Compact (PC) retro-fit kit might be a good option. Fairly cheap, easy to setup, multiple bulbs to "dial in" the light you are looking for:
