I have been looking for a 180 gallon acrylic tank for about 6 months. I went and saw this today.

A 230 gallon acrylic clean as a whistle. I walked into the room, looked at it and said "Oh Wow". Can we say Amazon bio-type. This beast is 72x24x31 inch tall. It will be a beast to clean but such a pleasure to look at.

Hubby and I will be picking it up in a week or two once the fish are rehomed.

Rock n roll!I would love something that large but just can't give up the wall space.I have a 150 in the family room that is 48x24x31.The extra 2ft would mean the couch would have to go.that 31" height is a b1tch.Need a step stool to clean.

Wow - fantastic looking tank, Pat !
That will look absolutely superb when you get it set up the way you want it to look !
Can't wait to see the finished product !
But what with/how are you going to stock it ? Discus ? Would you now deign to consider some domestics ?
My God, this is going to be some super readable journal.
Best of luck,

Awesome! My only complaint is the overflow on one end, kinda takes away from the aesthetics of the tank. The height isn't too bad. My old tank was 6x3x3 and I loved the height! You need a step stool, but it's not harder than a 2ft tank :)

Yeah, if you have that side hug a wall, it's not even noticeable? Maybe you can modify it out too... hard to tell by pic. I don't think it takes too much away from the tank though, it looks awesome.

My wife gave me the go-ahead to but 150-180G the other day AND told me she wanted the 75G stand (actually an old solid wood desk) for our daughter's room. Of course, she tells me this after I saw a 125G on sale for $200 with EVERYTHING on sale on CL. <sigh> Obviously, the tank was sold quickly.

Pat, not only do you need more fish, you need more worms :)

That datnoid is awesome! Were the fish extra?

Yeah thats why I said it was built as a peninsula style tank, the overflow side was supposed to go against the wall. You should do it Pat! Use it as a room divider!! :D

Thanks YSS, I will love it too once I figure a great method for cleaning it and yup, need a step stool. But then I need one for my 100 which has a 24 inch height.

Hey Matt, not sure what the other side of the stand looks like but cool idea. I currently can't do that with my current room configuration.

Thanks Paul, there is one domestic I would consider. Dan's German RT. Still drooling over those. My current plan is to stock with Alenquers.

Francis, my first acrylic tank was a 180. It is a fantastic size with lots of room to play with. Love the 24 in width. Makes an awesome reef which my old 180 is now.

Jose, that was the only negative I found with this tank. Once the wood is in I am hoping it will not be too noticeable. With this tank I will need a step latter. lol.

Eric, the tank will go against the wall and the overflow will be in the corner so not too bad. The worms are starting to make lots of babies. No worries there. The fish were included in the price and the seller listed the datnoid as worth $500. Make for a nice starting point on the price.

Yeah, it's probably hard selling a giant and expensive fish. The customer base for that must be very small. I would imagine it's hard getting rid of a large size fish no matter how much you mark it down.

It would be a good fish to eat discus culls though. Not the most humane, but at least it's natural and not wasteful :)

$500?????? HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I've dealt with big fish for a long time. I'll tell you right now, that's an Indonesian Datnoid that's worth $80-120 at best. He'd get laughed at trying to sell that thing for $500. They're a dime a dozen. I've bought them at $5-10 when small. Check this monster out. He's about 5x bigger than the one pictured, and I picked him up for $200

Thanks Pat! Yeah, that was my old 400g. Not into the big tanks and big fish anymore, too much work! Here's another one I had, close to the size of the one with the 180g. I couldn't even sell this guy for $150, had to lower the price. Just hate to see somebody get ripped off, that's all :)

I bought a 100 gal. Rubbermaid stock tank from Tractor Supply a few years ago when they had them on sale. They are very handy for all kinds of aquarium chores, from holding fish (I once kept 25 adult discus in it once for about a week), soaking wood (I've soaked a whole wheelbarrow load of Manzanita in it), growing water plants outside, to doing water changes I guess, though I've never used it for that! :D

Hey Darrell, if you see this would you mind sharing your lifting instructions you shared with Melissa. I will need them in about a week. Also you have 70W MW over one of your wilds tanks. Do those fixtures have fans? Thanks, Pat

Darrell Ward
06-13-2011, 03:15 PM
Well, actually, I use suction cups designed for lifting large pieces of glass to move tanks. I have four of them. It really makes moving heavy tanks much easier. They make several different styles of them, and you can get them online. I've had these for years. I do have several 70 watt MH fixtures, with two of them over a 6' 240 gal. wilds tank. They are just simple retrofit fixtures, that I hang about 8" above the tank. They have no fans, but you really don't need them with a 70 watt bulb, especially when you hang them. I love em! This is what I use...http://www.hellolights.com/70w-retrofitkithqi.aspx and bulbs...http://www.lightexports.com/servlet/the-662/70W-70-watt-6500K/Detail
