Eheim 2026 and 2028 on a 125 gallon tank. They are fine filters.

Hey geodehunter,

Your going to get different views from us all. Depends on the size of tanks as well.
I would suspect the larger set-ups run either canister filters, sumps in additon to Hob's.
The smaller breeder sized tanks will usually run only air driven sponge filters.

I like to run eheim canister filters on display tanks. Everything else gets sponge filters.

Ralph, I should mention I have a 75gal tank here. I am currently running an Aquaclear 70 and 2 Rocket filters. I am hoping this will be enough filtration for my needs. I have 6 discus coming next week. The tank it self has been running for 2 years now. Thanks, Robbie

FX5 and w/d sump powered by a Mag18 return pump on a waaay overstocked 125 African Ciclid tank. Africans and the 125 are in the process of being sold to make room for my 180 Discus tank which will be filtered with twin FX5s.

Hey Robbie,

The 75g for 6 Discus should be fine.
The Rocket filters are similar to large box filters. Do they still sell those? They deliver good oxygen with the tall lift tube.
What media do you have in it? Filter floss and carbon?
The AC70 is also fine.
Over all...I would say your set.

Running FX5 on my 100 gallon

and

Catalina Aquarium 1000 on my 45 gallon.

Both working great with no leaks and can barely hear them. Very quiet

I have sponge filters, Fluval 405s, AC110s, Whisper 60. Surprisingly, Whisper 60 is my favorite mechanical filter... it's easy to clean and good at removing debris.

Eheim 2215 on my 50 gallon with a sponge filter.. I'm very tempted to add another sponge filter to the tank as well.

I have always been a die hard aquaclear fan. Probably my favorite filter. I am trying a wet dry on a 125 right now and really like it. Wet drys and sumps give you flexiblity to try different things.

On my 150 I run a Marineland C530 & a Eheim 2224. My 75 I run two AC 70's. While the HOB's are easier to clean they don't keep the tank as pristine as the canister.

The 30 and 20 both have sponge filters on whisper pumps.

I run only sponges and BioMax in both.

if you decide on getting a cannister get the eheim classic leave the fluval in the store. fluvals are to hard to prime and the impreller cover always break. The eheim classics dont have any baskets but in my opinion it's still very easy to clean thou it may be a little messier than if you had baskets. I use to swear on fluvals thats all i used until all the dam parts kept breaking and needing replacement. I've heard people really liking the Rena but looks like the filter may have bybass with the classic its impossible for bypass.

I have a 75 with 7 adult discus and I use marineland HOB and two sponge filters - no problems
Although I will switch to a aquaclear 110 next week

Fluidized bed filter (K1 kaldness, not sand) Best bio filter i have seen thus far

canisters (fluval models mostly) Using more for mechanical then anything

wet/dry's (trickle towers) cant go wrong with these
