This has been a long time coming. And so far has cause some headaches. Where do I start. I have built a 55 gal sump out of an old used and leaking tank. I resealed it and built in weirs. From there I wanted to go no farther until I resupported my floor. There is something to be said about a big tank on the first floor. That is where I'm at. I need to resize my images and I will upload

if its concrete floor then its no problem. If you have a basement underneath i believe you are suppose to be putting the tank on the joints where they meet. Or something.

This is what has been done. Here is the Tank

It is a 210 Drilled which I will have running into my DIY Sump

The Basement was a crawl space Which I had to dig out and resupport

After a couple of weeks the re support is complete minus pouring a new floor.

I poured a new footing and a new brace/knee wall. From there I added an additional supporting wall around the entire crawl space. I doubled up all the floor beams and add a new center support with two lolly columns. People say to much work for a fish tank I say no way.

Looks like it works. I will be using plastic pots scubbers as media. Not sure what else to use?

Martha how are things with you. Were you hit by the tornado? We were lucky. My brother had slight damage.

do you plan on having a fish room in there eventually?? do you get water in your basement? Did you insulate it?

Poret foam between the weir supports would work great. You could take one at a time out for cleaning.

I would like to do a fish room but right know my hands are full raising four kids. I don't get water in my basement yet but with a fish room I know I would. I have to fonsh insulating the room but as it is summer nit a huge concern right now. Will be in august. As for the suggestion on the foam. What size should I use????

Very impressive Tim! Remember, the point of having a fish room in the basement is so you can get water in it! :) I took a near miss from the tornedo. I can walk to the damage.

It has been a while since I have updated this. It has been hard to balance work and play but this is what has happened.
I deciced to go with a real rock background whic has taken a lot of time. First I had to clean them again my daughter is up to the task

Then I started to attach them to the wall. Prior to attaching them I painted the back glass black to stop any light from coming thru the cracks

I had also built an under gravel jet system which you can see in the photos along with an acrylic divided which I will use to separate the substrate.

Once I fifnshed that it has been the push to get water into the tank.
I finished the filter and plumbing I filled the first chamber with Poret foam from Swiss Tropicals
68224
68225
I filled the remaining chambers with a ton of plastic pot scrubbers

Here is where I'm at today I have added filter sand to the front and Planted substrate to the back (soil master select) extra from the 90 project upstairs and installed all my pumps for the sump and the UGJ systems and disguised them with rocks and many branches68226682276822868229

So it has been a month and here we are. I have gotten water into the tank with some complications with the stand. I found out the hard way that the floor of the stand was not supported enough to hold a 55 gal sump and had to do some restructuring and filling it again. Here are some pics of the progress.
