Here's some info on the typical M. Marinum infection:

"In the United States, infections caused by M. marinum are rare, with an annual estimated annual incidence of 0.27 cases per 100,000 adults. Of the approximately 100-150 annual cases, most are simple skin infections."

You can contract the bacterial infection from any freshwater or saltwater source, including swimming pools, though the incidence of that has decreased in the last 20 years. Pretty much, it's something that's out there that no one ever thinks about till they get the infection.

Pathogens are everywhere. Bacteria have become reistent because of our overuse of anitbiotics. Some stuff that can be killed of by antibiotics in the petre dish (in vitro) cannot be killed off in a living body (in vivo).

What are we to do, lock ourselves is a sterile box? This young lady was very unfortunate. But I will do my fish chores as usual tonight despite the cut on my thumb. I trust in my immune system with every bacteria, fungus, yeast, virus laden breath I take.

I had a fish with that it's TB, had to use ethanol to sterilize everything. It is always around us in small amounts.

I have a rainbow fish friend to had to dump everything due to TB, sterilize everything and start from scratch. It naver affected him, though.
