My wife bought me four acrylic aquarium from a garage sale. They are pre drilled for easy draining and filling. There might be one problem, size.
They are 4 feet length x 14inches wide and 14inches high. I am concerned that this will not be a good size to grow out discus. What do you think?

I have been reading that a 75gal tank is best for growing out discus. That this height of 14 inches is not the best? You think with doing daily water changes I can still achieve good
size discus?

IMO...the best tank size to grow out discus is one that you can maintain properly.

I'm not sure if my description was confusing. Each tank is 4 feet length x 14 inches tall x 14 inches wide.
Stacked I could use pvc pipes to fill and drain them at the same time (somehow??). I am technically challenged
so I have yet to figure out how to do such a set up. But I was also planning to have a larger pvc pipe run
along the corner of the wall drain into the basement drain. Tanks are in basement with cement floor. Also have
a water line running above tanks which is not being used.

christian1971 I may be wrong but the drilled hole I believe are for filtration unless they are on the top of the tanks.

Those aren't the dimensions of a 75...I have several, and they are 48X18X21....I'm challenged by tank math as far as cubic feet =gallons, so I don't know what that size you mentioned is (something around a 45g)..Not that it matters, 'cuz Rod hit the nail on the head.....JMO, Gary

I previously had a 75 gal but we ended up DROPPING it earlier this week! So I had to cancel my discus order with Kenny. My wife found these four tanks for $10 a piece.

Those are 40 gallon tanks Christian, and though smaller than what you'd use for sub-adult or adult discus, they are absolutely big enough to grow out juvie discus.

If you're planning on buying a 75 gallon tank for them when they are grown, go ahead and set up a 40 gallon, then buy 6-7 smaller discus...say 2.5 - 3" ones. They'll grow fairly quickly, but you should be able to house them in the 40 gallon for at least 2 months, possibly 3.

That would give you time to find a good deal for your 75 on craigslist. Heck, you might even find a nice 90 gallon in the next few months!

For raising them I'd just use a sponge filter, heater and leave it barebottom so you don't take up extra space with substrate. More water in the tank is a good thing in a 40 gallon. You can always add a potted plant or a small piece of driftwood for decoration. =)

Did I mention that you could use a second 40 gallon to hold and QT a couple of rams and some nice tetras? If you get them now, they'd be ready for your big discus tank once the discus are grown out...bonus!!
