I want to get small Discus to grow them out, so question can I grow them out in tap water that is aged and ph adjusted. My tap water perameters are 7.8 ph and gh and kh are both 10. Would they be able to handle it?

Gh and Kh both 10 with a ph of 7.8? if you aerate it what does it go to? sounds like 7.8 is low for water that hard

Well that's when it sitting in a bucket for a few days but right out of the tap it is 8 to 8.5

When I use Discus buffer and neutral regulater I get to stay at 7 to 7.5 but not much lower than that

when it sits it goes down? usually when it sits it releases co2 and ph goes up.
Anyway it should be ok for domestics. imo it's pushing the limit but some say they have no problems with it that hard.

Dechlorinator maybe? I'm totally guessing here... but excess Hydrogen is combining with the sulfur compounds to form hydrogen sulfide which is outgassing as you age the water. This might reduce the acidity and increase the pH???

possibly or I was thinking maybe ammonia in incomming tap and the storage has it's own nitrification process going on?

Yeah, that's a possibility too. Plus we don't know what he's aging it in, I was assuming plastic but... it could also be a combination of several things.

I storing the water in home depot buckets and one thing a would notice is a oily slick on the surface after a day or two. Just picked up my 65 gallon water storage barrel today so I will see how things go until I find a r/o unit.
