I had a late visitor last night. Mark delivered my long awaited group of F1 Cuipeau fry and man, they are NICE. I'm in awe. Mark had a shipment to pickup from the Orlando airport and offered to bring them down with him.

Mark has been lucky to have two spawns from his Cuipeau pair and this group is from the second spawn. These fry are 100% wild and about 4 months old. I will post pictures once these guys are a little more comfortable with me.

It was a true honor to actually talk to someone else about wilds and of course the first thing to correct is my mispronunciation of the places the wilds come from like Nhamunda, Tefe, Alenquer and of course Cuipeau. I have tefe correct now but need to hear others spoken again. I can not believe far off I was on Alenquer. :(

Mark stayed about a 1/2 hour and had a nice chat. I do believe he liked the 230.

You're a mean mean woman Pat. :) Obviously now I want to see them all the more.

My Rose Red is happy about something, her colors have never looked better. Maybe the fact she's been pushing her mate all around the tank and she's getting ready to lay? Rhetorical question, don't want to derail the thread.

Keith, how about some pictures of your red rose while she has on her finest. :)

So these guys are settling in nice and even coming forward for food. They are not really ready for picture taking but took some anyway.

This picture is fairly true to how they look to the naked eye.

With flash so washes out the color.

:)

Trouble of course. ;)

Jennie, Mark (now known as Discus Origins) had two of his wild Cuipeau's pair up and had two spawns. These are fry, actually juvies from the second spawn. I have been waiting of these for a long time and worth the wait. :D

Oh my gosh, I go away for a day and look what you do!!!! ;)

Those are SO danged pretty, cute and adorable Pat, congrats on adding a new batch of awesome discus to your collection of wilds. Can't wait to see how they grow out for you. So you learned correct pronunciations eh? Gonna have to call you so I can learn them too.

I've always assumed that Tefe is tef-a (short e, long a), and that alenquer is Alan-k, but then again, my second language is french so I tend to use french pronunciations for any word that isn't specifically english. Well, unless it's dutch of course and then I just mangle the g's and try to make each word sound nice and guttural.

I don't know for sure, but a guy in our fish club who goes on yearly collecting trips, swears it's pronounced tee-fee. I really don't have a clue about alenquer! LOL! I have enough problems with correct English, so I don't worry so much about Portuguese, Latin, or whatever. :D I just grunt, and point, like a cave man. Ugg! (points) Fish!

Thanks Toni, I have waited several months for these guys and really happy to get them and they exceeded my expectations by far. Tefe is Ta-fe, longer on the first syllable and short on the second. You are close on the alenquer but can not remember the exact sounds. I plan on visiting Mark's warehouse come Oct so will get another lesson.

These guys are doing very well and starting to use the whole tank. I took this short clip to show some of the color development. I have to be careful as they are shy of the light.

Don't mean to be nosy, but didn't you have some other 100% wild discus besides those in your big tank? Just curious if you plan on doing a little consolidating? Big groups of wilds seem to work well. In my case, I got tired of having tanks everywhere, so when I sold off the fish from the 240, I started adding the wilds together a group at a time. Ooops! I guess you sold them to Linda. Nice fish.

Darrell, these were the Nhamunda reds that I sold to Linda. The 230 currently has 9 tefes and in the "fishroom" I have two 75 and the 40 breeder which has the Cuipeau juvies. One 75 is the pair (alenquer and curipera X) I am working with and the other 75 has a small crew (2 uatama blues, 1 alenquer and the smaller Curipera X) which will return to the 100 in the living room. I will taking the 100 down for a redo.

Thanks Keith, the pics are as they came from the camera. I think the tape measure is brilliant (sound a bit british here). Easier then netting the fish and measure that way :)

I noticed tonight, since the Marineland led's have the blue lunar light, that one of my F1 Cuipeau's is swimming around, hanging close to one of the Heckel crosses I put in their tank..That'd make for some really tremendous fish...
