What do you use to lower ph. Without using r/o. I know I can try chemicals but that'll just get flush away every time I do water change and it might not be consitent everytime I put it in. I know driftwood will lower ph too but I hate the tannin. And how do I also make my water more acidic. Thanks any advice can help

You can use co2.

Otherwise you've nailed it. Peat is more effective than wood.

That being said; discus will adapt to higher ph.. How high is yours?

My ph is 7-8. I know they can adapt to it but I need to lower it for my altums and maybe some wild discus in the future

Mikey, I'm not an expert here but I will rather go with RO to QT Wild Caught Altums. You can adjust them to tap water and higher PH after they are fully QT and being with you for a while.

Driftwood AND peat will also dissapate with WC's...choices are
1) Move
2)peat,driftwood, Indian Almond leaves
3)Muriatic acid
4)R/O
There's the reality of it all...I use everything but number 1 and the leaves...Pretty hard to escape from the simplicity of R/O if your water ain't right...Gary
p.s. nothing wrong with 7-8 ph for most fish to live in
