Start by looking at your water bill to see your water source. Then google it.

This search engine just brought me to Iowa water sight...
and I NEVER have a water bill... i live in a apartment that pays it...
i will keep searching....

Looks like your city uses wells. Good news is they only use chlorine in the summer months, but I would dose for it year round.

You'll need someone more schooled in water quality than me to tell you how your water will add up for discus.

One does need to be insightful enough to add their locale to the amwater site......duuhhhh!!

Thanks for the link! My local report is a little confusing (to me anyway...)

pH: 6.75 – 8.22
Total Hardness (as CaCO3): 47 – 87 mg/L
Naturally occurring Total Hardness (as CaCO3):2.75 – 5.09 grains per gallon


Does this mean at any given time my pH can take over a 1 point swing?? I don't test my pH regularly...I had thought it would be fairly constant. I better check this during all WC's.

Can I find the TDS from the Hardness ratings above or is a meter necessary for that?
