Pretty cool, nice parents.

You didn't mess around when you made that cage for the cone did ya

LOL, no I didn't. I've had flimsier ones and the dang fish would push them up against the eggs/wrigglers and still eat them. In fact before I clipped a couple wires at the edges normal cluster area and pushed them back so they would maintain a 1/2 inch gap, another pair pushed this wire one back and ate a batch. This one ain't moving anymore, and the second layer prevents them from eating through it. I think the female ate the last batch as they went free swimming, hence her being separated this time. I think/hope he will tend them instead.

And get this. So my marlboros spawned in a community tank about a month ago. Unconfirmed male, but sure appears to be one. Eats eggs when they're laid a lot. So caged those eggs, moved eggs and pair to a breeder, none were viable. So I dumped them back in the community 55 since they haven't done anything since then, they were two confirmed in that tank that haven't done anything in 6 months. Within an hour, maybe half an hour, the RTs were bowing, shimming, and cleaning the cone just put in that end of the tank. A few minutes later the BD male and BSS female are doing the same thing on the cone on the other end of the tank, and also chasing the marlboros away. It was pretty late last night, so nothing else happened. Could be a busy night tonight though.

That is a lovely pair Keith and really like the female. She is a sweet fish and very red. Surely she can not be an egg eater...appears so innocent. :) Could be an interesting night for you with all the love sign.

In the meantime my second pair are eating their eggs and the first pair have a new clutch on the cone.

Beautiful shots there.. That female is stunning!

Thanks Ciddian, and being a Cunuck, you know a beautiful red when you see one. Being from the U.P. of Michigan, always saw a lot of the Maple leaf. Stock car races, trips through the Soo, etc.

So far so good Jay. Maybe a half dozen white ones at almost 48 hours. Fingers crossed it looks that way tomorrow at half time of the Packers game. Who are they playing again, lol. The black and orange may be blacked and blued tomorrow. If the blitzes get to Culter, it's going to be a long day for Bears fans...again.

Yea Pat, if I have any suspected culls maybe I'll put them in with her and see what happens. It was one of them.

Cool. I'm coming to get them right, or do you want to see the room now in person?

Do you know who Mike Beal got the Rose Red from?

Love the pair. No doubt the female is hot.....I meant Red Hot......it should be a good outcome.

It'll be a short day, cause they'll be done watching by the end of the first quarter! Lol

Outplayed and outscored them the first and third quarters, and outplayed and scored even with them the other two. :)

A little bit closer now. :)

Uncovered...just for a photo

http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x418/CozyKeith/100_2886.jpg

Came home tonight to find perhaps as many as a dozen wriggling on the bottom of the tank. Dad not that interested with the whole deal, discussed with my wife the "wisdom" of pulling the cage off the cone to see if he'd get more interested, she suggested going for it. Within a minute he was trying to shoot strays back on the cone. Doesn't seem to be having success, and more breaking free. This is about 24 hours early. More pics later.

140 I've been easing it up daily with 50% WCs with increasing amounts of tap.

Nice Female Keith!!!!

She's got some miles on her. Hoping babies have mommies color and daddies size! :D I think I'll be growing some out if I can get them past 4 weeks. First we need another day and then attachment.

Here's a couple of pictures. Quite a squirming mass.

Can see a few of the strays here.

Nice batch Keith, so takes only a day for attachment?

Keith Perkins

They should have been going free swimming tomorrow afternoon/evening. I had some unattached eggs when the female laid, so I wondered if this might occur. Time will tell how many come off early and how many of them come up off the bottom after that.

As I feared, most of the fry that broke free a day early were dead this morning. :(

Oh, those guys. Well the turqs are on the right end of the 55 with the new cone. Mom is cleaning, dad is keeping watch. The BD and BSS are both nose to the old cone. The marlboro's are tucked up in the corner above them at the surface. I thought for sure they'd spawn the next night. I even did an extra 50% WC with RO to get the TDS down...nothing. Last night I did a routine large WC and gave them RO. There was a little courting last night, but still no spawning. So maybe tonight, but I would have thought they would have started by now, so maybe not.

I wish they would, seeing how the F1s at Jay's are looking soooooo nice.

worm's are here Keith... the time must be right because both the scribbelt's and altum snake's have egg's this evening....

Note to self - don't try that again! That would be since I had the baster out I decided to move about a dozen of the fry over to with their mother. I think I got about half of them back out before she picked them off. Dad seems irritated by the fry at this point rather than parenting.

Pushed the cones to the very ends of the tank. Slid the tall skinny driftwood to the right and stuck a homemade angled pvc spawning tube in in the center of the tank. Yea, now the marlboro's are fluttering too. Male turq is shaking like crazy and cleaning cone. Now the females cleaning and shaking. God, somethings got to give soon.

I'd say, moved the altum flora and rose red to a 40 breeder and guess what... their at it, just did waterchange to try to get the t.d.s. down. don't think it will be enough though..

Well, I got no attachment. So I start looking around the tank for survivors and I'm not seeing many. I start looking at the spawning cone and I eventually count 8 fry scurrying about it. So then I look under the sponge filter and have a nice colony of fry scooting about. So I pulled the father and plopped in him with the female. I dropped in another pinch of Hakari First Bites and fired up the bbs hatchery and we'll see if I can raise any of them artificially. I have the water level down to just above the spawning cone. They may like the bit of algae on the edge of the flat top of it. Time to feed adults...

Maybe should have pulled the sponge filter instead of the parent.
If there's nothing in the tank but the parent they will find him.

Between him showing no interest and the small number left I decided to just put the pair back together. This small group has more of less turned into an experiment.

The experiment may turn into a complete flop, but I'm hoping maybe not. Certainly plenty of chance to learn something here first hand.

Unfortunately Jennie, things around here continue to be perplexing. Just absolutely no fish cooperation. The mixed blues spawned, 48 hours one of them chowed them down. Either the RTs aren't spawning or the male is back to his old tricks and eating the eggs as fast as the female lays them...I'm suspecting the later. The other two pairs are spending most of their time hanging out at the adjoining wall checking out each other rather than getting busy. I've got a Paul approved/suggested idea I'm going to implement shortly, we'll see if that invigorates things.

After one of two treatments no change in my "old" adults. It'll be another week and half before the second treatment, and I don't know how long the treatment might actually take. I was thinking it would happen pretty quickly if it was going to make a difference, but when does that ever happen with me and discus. :) Patience, patience, patience.

On the other hand, one of my growouts laid eggs during the first treatment.
