when is solar salt used? what for? Ive seen the bag at home depot and it says water softener.. Good to use daily in aged water?

I use solar salt for all my salt needs, but not daily in water..these are Discus, not gobies...

I use it for making the brine to hatch baby brine shrimp in. It sure is a way cheaper approach than using aquarium salt. one bag will last me the next 2 years at least.
