Watching TURQ64 build his fish room has motivated me to add on to mine a little. I currently have 1 x 60 gallon, 3 x 55 gallon, 1 x 50 gallon, 1 x 37 gallon, and 1 x 29 gallon tanks set up on 2 different recirculating systems. Heres some pictures:

I plan on adding an additional 2 x 20 gallon and 4 x 40 gallon tanks. 2 of the 40s will be sumps. Heres a few pictures of what it will look like finished.

The black cylinders are a water softener and a salt container. The white cylinders are water heaters.

The 40 gallon tanks at ground level will be the sumps. The North wall and the 3 40 gallon tanks will be one system (grow out system) while the east wall and the 40 gallon tank next to the furnace will be one system (breeder system). The breeder system is set up on an RO drip system that has wastewater added back into it to take the TDS to around 50. The grow out system gets the remainder of the wastewater on a drip system.

Once I get the new tanks added and running I am going to coil up some PEX into each of the sumps and run a RANCO controller to heat the water.

It looks great, I like the crystal clear water.

What? No no chair or recliner? You've got to have room for at least one comfortable chair.

I use the step stool. My office is in the other room and if I plan on being there for a really long time I will roll the office chair in. I have also been known to take naps on the carpet though.

The room is nearing completion. All of the tanks are in place and the East wall is plumbed and running. I need to plumb the north wall to finish it up. Enjoy the poor pictures (cell phone camera)

I have been changing things in the fish room. I drilled all of the tanks and added 9 x 20 gallon tanks instead of 2 55s and 2 20s that I had. I just have a few things to finish up like the plumbing and the air loop. The 9 20s are on one recirculating system with a constant RO drip. The 40s and 55s are on a separate system and will receive all of the reject water from the RO. The tanks will be heated with stainless steel heat exchangers in the sumps that run off a recirculating pump on my water heaters.

Dont mean to hi jack your thread but Quick question for your return lines would it be better to run them this way:
------------------------------
| | |
| | |
| | |
| | |

Or like this:

| | |
| | |
| | |
| | |
------------------------------

That way head would be reduced and you would be able to get more flow? Just was curious. I got racks similar to yours so was about to start the plumbing part.

I'm don't completely understand the question. I plan on running the plumbing straight down to a manifold. The holes are drilled so that the tank above will be plumbed with the one below which will then enter a common manifold on the ground and then into the sump. The bulkheads are 3/4" that will go into a 1" and then to a 2" manifold

Very nice & smart set up.

Thanks!

I will take a picture when I have them finished. The idea is to use something like the stainless steel tubing that Jehmco sales on the bottom of this page: http://jehmco.com/html/heaters.html Hot water from my household water heaters will be pumped through the coiled tubing via recirculating pumps that will be controlled by temperature controllers.

There isn’t really anything special about the RO filter. It’s a standard 5 stage filter with a 150 gpd membrane. I can get a picture when the room’s cleaned up a little more.

Progress has been slow in the fish room with school and work. I have plumbed the return plumbing to the sumps. I also finished up this little project.

http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww304/toyotaman_bucket/downsized_0201131804_zps790ece7b.jpg

Its two temperature controllers wired to a duplex outlet. Each controller operates one of the outlets. I will be plugging recirculating pumps into the controllers. The recirculating pumps will circulate hot water from my water heaters through heat exchangers that will be in the sumps. The cooled water will then reenter the water heater. None of the water will be exchanged just the heat from the water.
