I'm going to purchased a couple used 55 gal food-grade barrels for my R/O system from a person in my area that outfits them for rain barrels. I'll buy them without his hardware, but I'm wondering what the opinions are out there about getting them with removable lids or not. Are they helpful, necessary? I haven't looked into the cost difference yet. That may decide the issue. Thanks for any input.

try to get the ones with removable lids, they are alot easier to clean if need to.

and easier to drop in things like heaters, air stones, and submersible pumps.

....And, if you are going through the trouble to HEAT the water, why lose heat to the ambient room tempurature---that also works your heater longer, costs more to run in electricity, etc. A lid on the barrel gets the water up to temp faster.
