Filled out my Wild Red group form Mark's (Discus Origins) 2nd Shipment. This shipment was from Mark's new supplier Santarem. I got 1 Cuipeua Royal, 1 Ponte Grande Royal and three Cuipeua Solid Reds. If these guys look this good now I can't wait to see what they look like in 6 months. The Ponte Grande Royal is the one with the thick striations. I think he is going to be amazing. Hugo from Santarem said these are the first Ponte Grande's to hit the US Market. The Solids are already showing some nice red and halos. They are gobbling up Al's freeze dried black worms. A month or so and they will go in the 125 with the rest of the Cuipeuas. Can't wait to see them all together.

Pat, my original intent was to keep the Cuipeuas pure and not mix anything with them but when I saw Hugo's video of the Ponte Grande they looked like they had some really unique features so I decided to add one to the group. I am really digging this guy and can't wait to see what he looks like down the road. I have the feeling he will be the dominant of the group. These guys settled in real fast and are gobbling up anything I give them.

Thanks guys. The light on their qt tank washed out their color a little but they are already showing some great potential. Along with the color I am also pleased with their shape.

One of the really nice things about this purchase was that Hugo gave Mark actual tank shots of the Wilds that he set aside for him. All the wilds in the tank came to Mark.

Really like the solids. Jury is still out on the Royals...for me personally.

Larry, they are looking look. See the solids are showing more red. I like the royals and solid for different reasons but must admit to loving the simplicity of the solids.

Looking very nice. Congrats! I am a royal guy. Really like the guy in the first pic on the left. Which one is that?

When I picked up these guys from Mark the solids seemed to be a lot more settled in. Probably they left Hugo's this way. They had very little fin damage and were really in great shape. They are already starting to show some of their color potential and I am very pleased with their shape for Wilds. The Royals weren't in as good shape. They are still showing some of the ragged fins (getting better) and I think it takes a lot more time for Royals to settle in enough for the striations to really show through. I think with time the Royals will certainly live up to their potential.

I always had a preference for the solids but that is changing and becoming more equal. They are each unique for different reasons as you pointed out.

Thanks, that is the Ponte Grande Royal. I don't know much about them. Mark told me that Hugo said they had never been exported to the US before. I would like to know a little more.

I've never been big on wilds mostly because of their shape but I sure would like to own these guys, they are near perfect in shape and color. Your video and photography skills are also some of the best I've seen here on Simply. From the video I can see that they are well acclimated, keep us updated, I will be following with great interest.

Good Luck, Rick

Thanks George. I hope it doesn't take a year or two but we will see. These guys are about 2 1/2 weeks in QT now so just a couple of weeks and they will go in the 125 with the others.

Thanks Rick. I am very pleased with the shape of these guys. The color will just get better with time. They were pretty much acclimated as soon as they got in the tank. I have to credit Mark and Hugo for that. I don't think of photography as a strong suit but I appreciate the compliment.

Hi Larry, I am asking again...

Nothing to report. None of my wilds have shown any interest in pairing or spawning so I am now back to working with my domestics.

Thanks. What about color development? Did they get stronger red tones? Do they just look the same? If you have time, new pics would be great.
