What would cause my RO/DI unit to vibrate violently while doing a back flush?

It's going through a valve or fitting and vibrating.

I've seen it happen before, no big deal.

My kitchen faucet is doing it since the water is all full of bubbles too.

Pain in the ears.

Mine is so bad it's tripping the auto shutoff valve.

How cold is the water your running through it?

It's about 73 degrees F from the tap. I'm in Hawaii, our tap water doesn't get cold.

one of my auto shut off valves does that when the tank is just 99% full

What tank are you referring to? Your RO water storage tank? I'm not having any problem producings RO water, only when back flushing.

Sounds like a faulty valve somewhere.

what I am referring too is that when the valve is 99% closed it can vibrate and make the noise, mine happens to be in the auto shutoff going to my storage tank, yours may be in the waste valve or flow restrictor

It's likely air locking up on the reverse mode for whatever reason..
