Just set up a new sump system. All parameters are within range ph nitrites-are all good. Used 100 percent silicone on glass in sumo to make chambers Used PVC cement for PVC Moved all sponges that are in tank to the sump. All fish were healthy and looking good. Next morning after installation fish gasping for air at top of water. Now some are upside down. Fins look damaged. Have completed a major water change and turned off sump and added sponges back to tank and salt. Any other ideas on what I can do or what might have caused this problem.

Make sure the sump isnt connected to the system and do a massive water change to start.

Need to keep doing water changes to make sure all the chemicals are removed completely.

Ge silicone I windows and doors is aquarium safe. you should let it cure 2 days so that all the acetic acid dissipates. keep up with the water changes

Normally I would never say this with discus but if you have a canister filter I would put some carbon in and let that run it should clean up some of the toxins and do a 100% water change..........that's all I can think of......no salt or meds just clean water..........Josie

Thx so much everyone for your help I hope I don't lose all the discus. I have just about done a 100% wc in a 475 gallon tank. About half the discus are struggling real bad. I wonder if I should squeeze out sponges.

I would remove the sponges and get new ones..they absorb allot of toxin that is hard to get rid of..how many fish in this tank?? maybe keep water level at half and continue wc 2x a day, since this tank is so large.
