will 16 discus work for roughly 5 months in a bare bottom 125g? the reason is im trying to grow some out and at the same trying to get them to pair. i will be running 2 sponge filter in it and i have the option to add an fx5 to it if needed.

so will the 16 discus be fine in an empty 125? they range from 3 inch to 6 inch. i will be removing pairs as they pair off.

Should be fine, just monitor your water, ammo nitrite .

Big water changes.

Do you have to run your faucet to drain your water or can you just siphon it straight down the drain? Having your tap running the whole time you're draining your tank then adding all the water for the water change itself is a staggering amount of water to use on a daily basis when you might not need to. If you can't just siphon it down the drain, maybe look into a pump to pump it out.

i run the tap to get the siphne starts then i move it to the bathtub and let gravity take over

I've never heard of too much clean water being a problem for discus.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say that it would be bad for the discus, just that there really isn't a huge need to change about 100 gallons of water a day unless you just really want to- around 50% for the babies should be fine, especially in a bb. It's totally up to you, though! If you'd rather do all the hauling and such, more power to ya!
