Sodium Thiosulfate seems like more bang for the buck when de chlorinating water. I find myself spending alot of money on prime and i do big water changes alot, so i run out within a few weeks. So i know it de chloronates water but does it also take of of chloramine? perhaps if you double the amount needed to de chloronate you can also take care of chloramine?

I'll probably still use prime for its "slime coat" replacement for treating an injured fish, but id rather my everyday solution be Sodium Thiosulfate.

Seachem Safe is a really good choice. It goes a long way.

Well Sodium Thiosulfate is the active ingredient in almost all commercial de chlorinators... so i wondered why not just buy the stuff and make an equivalent solution? for 3 bucks i can make a one gallon solution that takes care of my water for a long time compared to the 12 bucks i spend on prime.

Yes you can use Sodium Thio. if your tap water just contains chlorine. Safe/Prime is not Sodium Thio. based, FYI. I like to use Safe just because of the added benefit off neutralizing Ammonia in case of emergencies. Safe is pretty cost effective anyhow, a kg lasts me up to a year.

Same here. Switching from Prime to Safe was one of the best things I've done in this hobby. Safe is cheap enough that I can't imagine bothering with Sodium Thiosulfate.

Yeah I didn't know they made prime in a powder form...where can one get safe? I know kens fish does but I am ordering some stuff thats not available on his site and I just want to make one order. Where I live prime 250ml costs the same as the 500ml online and safe is deff not an option to buy out here.

I have to ask the people buying 8.8 pounds...how many tanks do you have? The 1 kilo container lasts me about a year.

i actually split the 8.8lb bucket with a buddy so i actually only got 2 kilos and was more of 45 bucks and im good for a long while but i change enough water where those 20oz prime doesnt last long enough to be cost effective
