I found this guy is selling a bunch of these factory refurbed Wayne transfer pumps on ebay, normally they go for $120 on amazon/home depot.
I can't post links yet, but if you go on ebay and search "WAYNE PC4 1/2 HP Portable Cast Iron Transfer Pump 115V", you'll see a bunch for sale.

It's probably a little more than I need, I only plan on using it for a 55g aging tank but if I can get one at <$50 total cost, it seems like it might be a no brainer.
I have two questions about it:
1) Are there any concerns with using this to pump water into the tank? I wasn't sure how the mechanics of it work or if there are any lubricants that could be harmful to the tank as water passes through?

2) Any thoughts on the deal itself, should I look elsewhere for a better deal?

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have 4 of them, all though I use Simer pumps, they can be purchased at the big hardware stores for about $65.00 new. You can also get replacement impellers from Simer for about $5.00.

Are you referring to Wayne transfer pumps in general or to this particular model? I have a wayne transfer pump that I got for around the price you mention but is is rated at 310 GPH. The unit he has here is rated at 1450 GPH. The cheapest I can find this one is about $118.45 on Amazon. I would love to have one so much faster than what I currently have so I was considering it.

I'd also like to know, as I am hunting spare impellers for the PC2's...

I have a 115V Wayne Transfer pump, best thing I've done to make WC's easy. No buckets, just plug in the Transfer pump, and the water comes, and not a hard flow either, nice and gentile. I also have a 75 gallon reservoir tank where I mix 50-50 RO / Tap and remove the chlorine , also heat the new water to the Aquarium's water temperature. I also test the new water's parameters before adding it to my Aquarium.
Buy the Wayne transfer pump, you'll be very happy with it.

I made a mistake and posted before I clicked the link. I have 4 of the ones like you that do 310 gph, both Simer(m40p) and Wayne (pc2) are almost identical, with the only exception being the makeup of the impeller housing. I have seen the Pc4's as well at my local Menards for $89.95.

Gary, the Simer M40p impeller will fit on the Wayne Pc2, they are identical (the impeller that is). Just call Simer and order some, last time I did they were about $5.00.

Thanks for the update Rick. I may see if I can grab one of these. I use mine for draining the tanks and it would really speed the process up with the faster pump.

I've been 'google serching' for months for spare impeller's, and five bucks caught my eye..The link is about the same as all the rest; 16.00 or more for a kit with the impeller, gaskets, and whatever....thought there was a deal floating by....oh well..

Gary,

Call Simer direct, don't buy one of those "kits" unless you need more than just the impeller. Simer is a company name. The parts from the simer pump and the wayne Pc2 are interchangeable. The only difference is the impeller housing, and even this can be swapped from a Simer m40p to a wayne pc2.

Simer (800)468-7867.

I'll give 'em a shout tomorrow..I run four also, only 2 are Wayne's, the others are clones...all the same impeller, even fits my 350 buck Jabsco water puppy...('cept they want more for an impeller than the cost of an entire Wayne pump!)

So, I ended up getting two of these. One for $35 and the other for $45. They arrived yesterday. So I swapped one of them out with my current Wayne pump which is rated at 310 GPH. The new one is rated at 1450 GPH which would be about 24 gallons a minute. You never really know if a pump really lives up to its rating but I knew it was definitely going to be much faster than what I was using. I needed to do 50% changes on two of my 125's last night along with a 75, 55 and 20. I have a pvc fitting that hangs over and into the tanks so I can do other things while the tank is draining. Hooked it up to the first 125 and sure enough in about 3 to 4 minutes I had 50% of the tank drained. The pump I use from my storage container is rated around 540 GPH so it took longer to fill the tank back up. I had both of the 125's drained and filled in less than 15 minutes. I think I'm going to really like this. I now realize my stupidity though. As fast as this pump is there is no way I can use two of them at once, lol. I will also keep the smaller pump for fry tanks.

Glad it worked out for you Bugman, I was able to get one for around $40 also. Haven't had a chance to test it out yet, but it sounds like it will make water changes really easy. Thanks for all the feedback on ordering one of these.

I got one to, the only thing that bugs me is that we were probably bidding each other, so I waited and got one for 20 plus shipping, I get it today I'm probably ordering another one today
