Super Reds.

I will be skipping Discus altogether - as of today.

Anybody know of a good source locally in NJ and NY where I can get Red Severum?

Why are you giving up on discus? Just curious.

I haven't seen those, but just saw some redhead severums in NH. Maybe ask on monster fishkeepers. They look really nice, though.

I've kept Discus on several occasions throughout my fish keeping years. I've done ok with them but this time around going into a new show tank in our new pad I've decided against going with Discus.

I don't want to be bothered with growing them out and I don't want to gamble on getting adults that may or may not get sick. Discus as most know - are somewhat delicate and require a much higher level of husbandry from the hobbyist.

So it's best for me to save my money and go with fish that are equally enjoyable for me but not as delicate.

I got a nice lead from a member to check out aquabid. I think I may score 4 reds for $100!

seen these last summer. They looked awesome but didn't have a free tank as I was into flowerhorns at the time. I think they were $35 each about 3.5"

Got a baby Red Severun for $6 from my lfs. He hactual bred them and had the parents on hand. Right now it looks like a deformed baby discus lol.

How did the Red Severum come to be? Was it by selective breeding of heros efasciatus sp. rotkeil (red shouldered green severum) and heros efasciatus w/ xanthistic gene line bred for spotting (gold severum)? Or it it purely line bred specimens with the xanthistic gene?

Jeff Rapps has both XL adults & 3-4inch juvie super reds available. His website is tangledupincichlids.com. Lots of great fish on that site.

are they Super Red Severum? or red neck severum ( hero) or Red spotted severum ?

I do really like super red severum... What I heard that the males are having problems with ferited.... let me know if I was wrong.. because I don;t see anything successful spawning for the super red severum.

I was able to purchase two super red severum from a LFS in South Jersey @ 3" each. I paid $50 for both. Not a bad price considering other LFS in North Jersey were trying to charge $50 per fish same size!
