Stunted means.. due to poor water quality, lack of nutritional feedings, illness and lack of water changes..

causes a adult/juvie discus to stay small but EYES will continue to keep growing.. so it will have a large eye to body ratio..
usually will happen during the first 4-5 months of discus life.. (this is when fastest and most important growth happens)

This is Max! He is my favorite fish. He always come right to the tank when I walk by always wanting to eat, I always feed him too. He loves Al's FDBW. I can't even get them in the tank and he is jumping for them.

I do NOT want any critics on him please. I know he isn't a show fish and never will be. But he is mine and I love him.

lol I got him the beginning of March. This fish has NOT grown a MM. And he eats like a little pig. He is still only about 1.5-2in. I think he is a Blue SS but not even totally sure on that.

PS it is ok to laugh though :)

This is off topic, but gosh Teshi, Max is adorable!

He also looks extremely young and not TOO horribly stunted yet, so you may get some growth out of him eventually. On the other hand, LFS factors and his own genetics might be working against him.

I have a female top quality discus who chose to pair off when she was only 4" and brand new in my tank. She's been steadily laying eggs for almost a year now and has only grown an inch at the most. She's still a fave of mine though cuz she's so fiesty and cute as a button. LOL

I thought I would have been okay with him. That particular LFS gets their discus from one of the sponsors here on SD. Just really goes to show you how even a month at a LFS can affect a fish.

Yeah, you just never know with a LFS. Many of them just don't have the time to feed the little ones as often as they require. A month in a tank without proper food can spell disaster for a hungry juvie.

Here's a pic of my little fishie. She was never in a LFS and had all the advantages of 6 feedings a day and lots of water changes, but still refused to grow:

Maybe she and Max can get together some day and make midget discus? LOL

She is Pretty, I hope Max can get like that. If he is a Max and not a Maxine we may have a new discus breed... Dwarf Discus.
