Amano type

anybody ever try an Amano type planted tank with discus? some of those tanks are insane just wondering if they could hold up to discus

This was my tank back in 2004. Since then I went through a divorce and lost a lot of things in the process including photos. This is the only photo I have left. I found it on Photobucket. Anyways I had bought a bunch of Takishi Amano books and followed it to a tee.

My tank was a beauty, but I was a bit new to discus then.. I thought the discus I had were doing great and they did spawn frequently in the tank. BUT when I look at the pic now I think the eyes on that Discus look a bit dull and he looks slightly dark for a blue diamond.

I was also striving to have a tank good enough for the incredible tanks in the Aquatic Gardener's Association, if you haven't seen those things OMG..some of them are incredible!

Would need to choice plants that would thrive in Discus conditions & leave enough swimming room. But should be able to be done.

Tom Barr has done some incredible planted discus tanks for his clients in the past, including a 1600G. Would i call it an "amano tank"? No, but it's still amazing. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/tank-journals/34634-behemoth-1600-gallon-planted-tank-39.html#post1738770

Actually Amano HAS setup some tanks with discus already. Here's a photo of one of the tanks:

He's got a three of them in volume 1 and another one in volume 3 of his books, plus the one above was from his book, "Nature Aquarium: Complete Works 1985-2009".

His own personal tank is setup with Altum angelfish.
