I'm getting ready to grow out some juvies . How do you guys do 6 feedings in a day with both me and the wife working it's going to be hard to do. Think I have a plan. Do you use a feeder on a timer is about all I can think of?

Yep, I work every day about 10 hours, I feed twice usually before I go to work, they consume their first meal very quickly and then I give a second feeding right before I leave. This is also when I feed my foods that cant go into a feeder, so usually BH mix (small amount if I do this as my water change is in the evening) but usually I feed FDBW, then Bill's BH flake before I leave for work. I set the feeder for two feedings while Im at work, usually pellets, and another round Bill's BH flake, then when I get home I give one more nightly feeding then do a big water change (50% or more). Its a routine and sometimes it can feel like it makes work just continue going but overall I love it. Just imagine what it gets like when you have fry you have to attend to as well with a full time job.... it doesnt get easier I can tell you that.

I also find that if I add just ONE thing per night to my water change routine it helps me out a lot, as in Ill pick one tank to clean, or clean the aging barrels, so on and so forth. Then you dont wake up one day and realize you have 15 tanks that havent been wiped down in two weeks. With this process every one of my tanks recieves at least one wipe down per week, everyone stays well fed and at least one WC per day. Its all about establishing a routine.

Is there a certain brand of feeder that works good?

I like the Eheim daily feeder, very simple and reliable.

I love my wife only working part time and being within quick driving distance from work to home to be able to feed them lunch if I have to. A flexible lunch period don't hurt either.

making some food block for your fish. Simple as preparing your food mix any which way you like and then leave it out in the sun for 3 days

My next experiment will be shredded beefheart , dry it and then use the feeder as a substitute for pellet.
