New Fish Room - San Marcos, TX

Ok Everyone - this is literally the start.

I promise to take pictures along the way - progress may be slow, we're doing it all ourselves.

Converting 1/2 of a three car garage into my fishroom.

These are the can not walk in the garage before pictures. Merging two 3000 sq feet houses into one is hard.

Between that and the 4 boxes of laundry...should have it ready for the walls to go up.

Ok well 3/4 of the walls up, got to the door.

Small problem of unlevel concrete floor... High spot right in middle of the wall. Had to rework the wall.

Ok - update time...had a few slow downs and limited time to work on fish room. So ....

Room is enclosed... Heat and air in...filtered water storage plumbed and works - 4 275 gallon tanks- airline run done - pump ready and waiting. Stand built for the breeders central system. Breeder system will be closed to new fish who are not here or bred here! Sump is in and drains are 70% plumbed. Finish overflows then tie system into drain line ...

Phone crashed and pics between here and now are buried in thousands of others on a backup... But here's one quick shot from today.

Ok - good news and bad... System is up and running - leak tested and no leaks! Drained and moved a little bit into final position. Added one discus last night - hour later she's good but unhappy being alone, so add a few more. All settle in and start coloring up... So go to finish watching Super Bowl. Come back to check again been about 1.5 hours - fish look horrid! Moved back to old tanks...

Have lost two so far and two others are not swell still. They have increased respiration, the two that died have cloudy eyes (like a burn) also one in their tank has slightly cloudy eyes. They are getting large (85-90% water changes twice daily for now)

Water tests good for normal stuff - slight ammonia .25. Weird is that it also tests positive for nitrates -- but I added seeded sponges from their old tanks also.

Have done another 100% water change and wiped off everything. Fixing to add some Africans for a while... Will not add my good guys till I know it's safe. Will start with some culls first...

Have double checked everything used - all is fish safe! Only guess is kids got a little something??? in the sump and I missed it..

They are not allowed without supervision - but their daddy is not the best supervisor...

Good news is Africans (healthy from a friend) are doing good been in tank since 6... Settled and ate some also. Did complete 100% - shop vac dried water change.

Discus are all looking much better with tonight's water change - in their old central system. May have to separate a few in the morning... Two girls were feeling up to sparring briefly tonight, before going back to group swim a long...

They all look better today so hopefully on the mend! All are swimming as a group now... fingers still crossed

Good news is the Africans have been in 22 hours now and are settled in and acting 100% normal, so I believe it must have been something in the water not a product used in construction.

Of course because I put the Africans in - have to QT ... Although I know these fish are healthy that's not to say they are not carrying something that would make the discus sick...

Debating just doing another 100% cleaning so its all clean again! But will wait a week at least ... Cause that's hard work and I'm bushed after doing it twice the other day.
