The discus class was the largest class by far at this show. Myself, Ad Konings, and Laif Demason judged the show. When you think about the other 2 judges history in the cichild world it makes the Best in Show selection that more impressive.

Pat, the judging is sat afternoon, you can get fish in a tank fri afternoon until doors close for judging sat.

Thanks Jim, I can see where it is best for the fish to get it to the show the night before to give it a chance to settle and look it's best. Again congrats to the winners.

Jim, was this the first time in FOTOS/TCA that a Discus won best in show? If so, what an accomplishment for our hobby.

Barb I doubt there are very many pics. While I am a board member of the TCA I hate the way we do shows...In a lot of ways it has really declined. There was a time we were very professional but that seems to have passed.

I couldn't believe the Betta's folks faces at the auction for the prices those guys were going for... 25-35 each. I was standing next one and we were talking and she thought we were exaggerating the prices. They figured maybe 15 and some they wouldn't even sell and they would have to take home. Since they had a 5 dollar minimum opening bid!

Yeah I couldn't believe some of the prices those Bettas were going for in the auction. i mean come on I could have gone to Petco, got a bunch of them and put them in bags and would have made a killing. Could have easily doubled or trippled my money....

Yes ... Petco has nice Bettas for around $10, some at auction was bid over $30 ... some had a $15 minimum opening bid
We may try breed Bettas get money for Discus :)

The bettas at the show were half moon show bettas, not veil tails. A huge difference.

Still a difference between 1/2 moon petco bettas and show bettas, I have not been in a big chain pet store in so long I did not know they had started carring 1/2 moons. Good to know.

FYI....my Horizontal fish is now Verticle and swimming like nothing happened.

yep little water and salt did the trick And patience. I did put a cone into the tank simply for him to use as a tool to keep him verticle when he got tired swimming. I also put him in the tank with the other show fish just so he would have a buddy to encourage him. It worked and he is back to himself. Will continue with the salt for a few more days but I would say its probably not needed. The salt at this point is to help heal the little bit of scrapes and such he got from being horizontal.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that crossed their fingers for my daughter betta spawn. Looks like a pretty decent sized spawn. Before long I might not have room for my fish...LOL. She has 3 other pairs that are ready to spawn, but I am making her wait until I get back from deer hunting before spawning them.
