This took me an hour or so to figure out (mostly, trying to keep dates straight)
I tried to pull screenshots from my videos (in addition to pictures I took)

Looking back, I'd much rather have these pictures than the videos I took (lower quality)

Enjoy! I'll continue to post normal updates in the other thread, this is just for people to easily peruse pictures and see progress (without having to go through 100 pages of thread)

'classic' straight line alex piwowarski male, pretty big

Female. Not typical of a straight line, but same strain. She's a bit of an odd ball

Surrogate male as the parent (same strain, but he has better parenting skills). This is day '0' (first day of attachment)

December 9th pictures. Nothing terribly new. The red is slowly spreading through the body. Slow growth. Nothing interesting. A bit bored with them.
I believe this is day 199 (rough estimate)

December 23rd pictures. I believe this is day 213 or so. Much more exciting than December 9th, looking back. The red is mostly through the body. They're starting to look promising in color. I might have to call them 'spotted turks'
I'm excited about them, again. I hope they grow another 2 inches. I need to measure the size, but guessing a solid 4" on a few

Thats Awesome....what size tank is that you used to grow them out?

Harry Marsh
10-12-2012, 11:39 AM
I went from a 29 gallon with parents
To a 20 gallon when they were tiny and separated
to a 55 gallon
to a 75 gallon
And then the 8 were moved to a 35 gallon cube
I'm debating moving the 8 to their own 55, as they continue to grow

They are looking great and growing fast. 55g will be the way to go.

Hey Harry. Looking good. I have witnessed similar developement in this strain in my tanks. Once they start it's really cool how the striations form and the colors brighten....right? Keep up the good work my friend.:D

Great thread, how about a one post documentation of feeding schedule and changes as threy grew, water change routine/parameters and any adjustments you might have made along the way (tds, etc).

Agreed. They're slow to develop (some say a year before they get their colors), but I hope it worth the wait

Yup, much needed. I'll work on that next
Those pictures probably took me closer to 2 hours to compile. Nothing better for a Friday!

Yup, I think you're only 2 weeks behind. The colors sneak up on you. One minute you think they're boring and bland...
And then you look back and the development can be impressive

Harry, absolutely amazing. This group is showing excellent colour development for the strain. I'm not sure if you realize it or not, but piwos typicalll don't start to develop colour like that until much later, so you've done an excellent job. My piwo redturks were the better part of a year old before they started to colour up. This thread makes me wish I had more tank space and a female to go along with my male.

Great job . I'm kicking my self for trading away my piwo turks for the wild i have now. The growth on the fish are awesome. What is your secret? What were you feeding them during the different stages

I'm sure I'll have tank problems in the future. The latest pictures show these guys in a 55 (moved today)
I think I had them in a 37 too long: now in a 55, which might be too small, already.
I have a 75 spare, but there's no light. They may be there soon
