I have read most of you recommend the wayne PC4 transfer pump for draining your aquariums. for my 120 gallon would this one work for a one tank house http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053&R=100047107&catEntryId=100047107#product_description or is the PC4 going to benefit me more

Chech out the Mag drive pumps, they can be used inline or submerged. Kensfish.com also stock them.

I don't think you need a pump to drain your tank, I use a 1 inch diameter hose and siphon the water to my lawn, but if you want to use a pump then get a submersible one that pump at least 1000 gph, but again I don't think you need a pump. JMO...

it took forever to drain the other night b/c i was using a bathroom faucet. This tank is too far from the back door and with 6 dogs i cant leave the front door open. I planned to drain water into my bathroom tub. also if i did age my water i could use it to fill the tank back up correct?

Then get a submersible pump, now if you are going to use same pump too fill the tank, then get one that at least pump 2000 GPH.

Yep. But it would be easier to get one that can be used inline to drain it then buy one to always have in the storage tank. What i do. Soon though i will have both the hoses for draining and filling clamped to the tanks back rim permanently (this will require me drilling some hose holes in the wall though) and both the pumps hooked up to wireless outlet controllers (like the ones used for christmas lights) so all ill have to do is flick a switch to either drain it or fill it. Though in your situation it doesn't sound practical so id start with one and see how it goes.

Look at Jehmco power siphon (powerhead on siphon)..would work well in your situation. Then a stronger powerhead will fill from storage.

Believe me, the quicker you can drain the water the less of a pain it becomes and the more likely you are to adhere to a regular water change schedule. I have the PC2 pump which is somewhere around 450 GPH and I wish I had one much faster and this is for a 50 gallon grow out tank. For my new 120 gallon display tank with a 50 gallon sump I'm putting together, I have a 950 GPH mag drive pump to drain it and I'm already thinking it's going to be too slow.

Mag drive do not self prime. Unless you want to put it in the tank, it might not be the best solution

I have a mag drive pump i'd sell if you can go that route (a mag 20 or 24, i forget)

I'm happy with my pc4
