Color of eggs
I’ve got a nice pair of discus recently. No plan to breed. But within a few days a qt these 2 layed eggs on my internal filter. Eggs stayed there for a few days then they ate them. Thought I had a pair. This first set of eggs were red. I never saw who layed them. About 2 weeks later I’ve got red eggs again. These are eaten right away. 2 days later I’ve got white eggs in the same place. Can one female lay different color eggs? The whites were eaten as they were laid. So I think I’ve got 2 females. Water changing today and there are red eggs on the flower pot I added and both are again taking care of the eggs. What’s up? Females or a pair?

Re: Color of eggs
You have 2 different pairs. Not basted on color, but on the fact that it takes at least a week for a female to lay a clutch of eggs.

Well, that's a head scratcher...BTW, it looks like you have a male and a female.

Re: Color of eggs
That was my first thought! But I’ve never seen who’s laying the red eggs. I watched the smaller red one lay the white eggs and the blue one ate them right away. I’m thinking they’re 2 females. Be nice if the blue ones a male and the red one lays different color eggs.

Re: Color of eggs
My guess, is that the white eggs were no good, the male knew and he ate them.

Re: Color of eggs
The eggs will turn white for various reasons.

Re: Color of eggs
The white eggs are died. These are covered with fungus to produce a white appearance.

Re: Color of eggs
Red eggs probably the Discus was eating color enchanted food. White eggs fungus, The eggs should be amber orange.

Re: Color of eggs
I hear ya’s!! But definitely white eggs no fungus. It was 2 females. One laid red eggs the other white. They acted like a pair but the eggs weren’t fertile. I got a male and the eggs are now fertile. Got a thread running about the fry.Attachment 136770
