Looking for a male Blue Turq
Hello, I purchased a group of Hi-fin Blue Turq Discus a little over a year ago and now that they have matured and are ready to breed I'm seeing a whole lot of egg tubes... I've had at least two lay eggs so I know they are females... But not a single clutch has made it. I watch them lay the eggs but there's no one stepping up to fertilize. I'm thinking I am lacking a male! I purchased this group from a private breeder somewhere in central Massachusettes, I dont remember her name or what town she's in.... Otherwise I would just go back to her in search of a male. SO.... Are there any breeders in the NH/ME/MA area who would be willing to sell me at least one KNOWN male?

MMORRIS, Martha? Monson, MA. Man that's a lot of M's.
Re: Looking for a male Blue Turq
It could be the males have not matured yet. Females mature before males. I would give it more time.

+1
Very well, yes. And also your water parameters/temperature/movement,so many factors involved in-between for the eggs to fertilize.Just not the male.

Monson Ma does sound familiar... Is Martha a member of this forum? I was hoping to reconnect with her. She had some truly amazing fish!
Re: Looking for a male Blue Turq
I did some research on sexing discus... And in all honesty I would have never guessed the one that turned out to be female was female if I hadn't gotten the chance to watch her lay eggs... From observing her egg tube while she was laying her eggs I think I've determined at least 2 more are also females just by looking at their organs... Do the male and female organs look the same? Or is the egg tube a pretty accurate way to sex them?

As I am new to this site... Can someone fill me in on how to PM someone....?
Re: Looking for a male Blue Turq
I believe you need 11 posts to be able to PM. You can just bump this thread a half a dozen times. Meanwhile I'll send a link to this thread to Martha...she's definitely a member here. Also my former mentor. :)

Bump a thread? Man, I need to get up with the times! I've never been a member to a forum before...

Re: Looking for a male Blue Turq
Bump is normally used on something like a sales thread to bring it back to the top of the que so if you click on New Posts the thread is present. It can also up your post count though obviously, but since Pat helped you out no need.
