Courting Great Blue Herons
I was lucky to find four pairs of Great Blue Herons courting and nesting building at Viera Wetlands near Melbourne, Fla. They nest on the top of palm trees by flatting the fronds to support the nest.
The pair in the first two images were not working to well together. He kept landing on her when returning a stick to the nest.

This next pair was a lovely pair and worked well together. When he flew in with a stick he would hug her with his head and neck prior to flying off for the next stick.

A little kiss.

This is a different pair. Mating is an interesting act of balance.

Audubon couldn't have done a better job and he shot, stuffed and wired his specimens. Nice work Pat.:)
