Rick, not only that I admire your breeding experiments, but also full bellies of Your fishes. Beautiful and healthy fry!
I am really looking forward to see the development and will be attentive student! Phenotype breakdown seems to me wider than one would expect, at least now. I can see signs of white with patterns, but also clear white type (was also second parent bearing white gene? – it does not seems to be the case from picture and no white homozygotes should occur, maybe they will develop some pattern earlier??) and also can see 9 bar fishes and surprisingly something like ghost type in some fry (1. Bar above eye and the last bar)...
Do you have insight in to the origin of these throwback parents? If you could describe the breakdown in details I would appreciate it, but anywayi like it and will watch as they grow out.
You are the treasure for curious guy like me. Thanks
Male is ARSG x MercuryQuote:

Female is Albino San Marah x pb based Snow White
Goal is to Get some Red/White discus with blue coloring on the dorsal region and into the fins. The number of phenotypes is not unexpected, alot of different combinations possible with this second genration cross of two seperate F1's of mine. I am looking for one phenotype in particular, with the others being more of a curiousity than anything.
I dont think the ghost gene is doing much if anything here, and I am not sure either of the parents even carry it. Rather I think the 1/2 face eyebar and the tail bar are the combination of the barless san marah and snow white, almost, but not completely, removing all the bars on a few of the phenotpes (when the pb and SW gene is not present). My guess is these partially bared brown based fry will resemble something simular to a San Marah when grown, time will tell if the ARSG genes give these phenotypes any pattern.
You can also see some sheen on the dorsal region of a few of the white based fish. This should turn to blue as time goes by. Notice the lack of any melanin underneath, this is why I argued so adamatly with you on this issue in the genetics thread.
Rick
Rick, I really like them! I see they are still in with the parents. What size tank, how many babies in there? If you don't mind telling that is.
Barb
Barb,
Its a small batch, maybe 20-25 after I culled some. They ae currently in a 45 cube, parents do not seem stressed in the least so I leave them be as long as I can maintain my 2x a day 90% water changes. When the WQ becomes an issue or the parents act the least bit stress, out they will come.
