...and the hits juss keep on coming....
Hey Guys~
I am in the middle of a wc and I noticed a
crack about an inch, if that, on the
inside of my 55gal...
I can
feel it ~ only on the
inside, back, right hand side~ I can not take a picture of it yet...
It could be a scratch, but I don't think so ...a scratch you wouldnt' be able to
feel??.... Please please someone tell me I can like DO something other than buying a new tank???
I will so owe you big time! and......
Do you think that it will spread? Spider out like a car windshield does?? Tell me I am not going to wake up to a busted tank! I was going to add this really cool background tonight....but now I am not so sure~
****-tums!

Marie, deep scratches you CAN feel!
Keep an eye on it, or see if the tank is still under some warranty. If so, contact the store where you bought it, and see if the manufacturer will do the right thing by you.

Where's the crack and how does it run? Sure, it can continue to crack.
Re: ...and the hits juss keep on coming....
Mat~
It runs from top to bottom...on the back almost mid-section, right side...soooooooo....horizontal....
Do ya think it will grow?

Marie
Sounds more like a scratch than a crack. If it wqas a crack you would be able to feel it on both sides or not at all, not on one side only. Tryy looking along the glass panel and look for light defracting t the crack, shine a lamp or a torch alomg it if needs be. No refracting means no crack. Difficult to tell without seeing it.
Measure it, exactly, and make a note, measure it again in a few days and that will tell if its growing, if it is its a crck, but I still think its more likely a scratch. I've a couple of tanks that are scratched to hell.

Marie,
I have some scratches in my tank. I had a really huge heavy piece of malaysian driftwood in there before and it fell back as I was setting up the tank and gave me a nice white scratch on the back of the brand new tank. I was so mad at myself lol. I hope yours turns out to just be a scratch too!

Re: ...and the hits juss keep on coming....
Odds are this is a scratch Marie and not the world taking swipes at you left and right.
Keep an eye on it. Count your pennies for another tank just in case, but lets hope it does not come down to that.
When you get your camera back, take photos and Post pictures of your crack...Mmmm, that doesn't sound right.....

Paul! I thought that too! And I can only feel it on the
inside, not the outside~
hmm..........this is good news, eh? lol...But I will measure it and keep tabs on it!
Paul, could you clear that up for me? Shine a light? Will a flash light work? And.......what am i looking for?? LOL!

Marie,
Even if it is a crack - and hopefully not - I had a 55 gallon with a 4 inch crack about halfway up on the right side panel from whacking it with a rock during a housecleaning. At the time I had no more tank space and as it was in an unfinished basement I rolled the dice...
I had that tank for 6 years in that condition with no problems and eventually gave it to a friend who was going to replace the panel and keep going...
So like the folks said - keep an eye on it. If it spreads, grows or you ever see water coming from it - that's it. It has to go. If you could mark either end with a magic marker on the outside you can tell even better.
But it's probably a scratch anyway!
