Water changes for breeding pair?
Hi, I was wondering how often should I change water in a 20 gallon tank that I will have a pair in? I have had a pair but the colors were not a good match so hoping with help of a freind to get my PB to match up with a male he sold me. So I was just wondering if changing the water is to much of a disruption for them when they are laying? My pair that I have has never been successful and I wondr if I was changing the water to often. i was doing it every other day at 1/3 of the water in a 20 gallon tank. Is there a better way to not stress them during this time? I want my new pair to hopefully be successful.

Why are you changing water when they are laying eggs
Re: Water changes for breeding pair?
I normally change 50% daily.

All my tanks get a change daily, just some more than other. 20% to 100%. I don't make exceptions for pairs. While I don't do a change while they are actually laying eggs (Skip) I don't change the routine much while they are on eggs or wigglers. I may reduce the amount of the change to keep the eggs/wigglers submerged. If you have a routine then they are used to it.
Re: Water changes for breeding pair?
Oh so you guys dont think it will stressed them out while they are laying? Mine do tend to lay at the bottom when I change water. Being a little stressed. So just change like I have been ? I dont change during the laying but during the days to come while their fanning though. Ok, wow didnt realize you guys changed every day when their adults. I thought every other day was enough. hmm

I change everyday 50% just like everyone else. The eggs can be out of water and still survive. It may cause the pair to eat the eggs the first few times but they will get used to it.

Just wondering do you still add salt to the tank after water change?

Not sure how we got the salt in here.. Thanks I will hope my female will be successful in spawning eventually. She has had eggs reach up to when the babies ar just getting ready wriggle. So it must be her or the male not my water changes. I hope she successfully pairs with the new PB carnation I got her.
