Trish - I counted 190 viable eggs from this batch as I remember, but somebody ate all but about 2 dozen of them. Toss is a couple culls along the way and there are a whopping 20 of them now. In the past I would have been tempted to scrap a batch that small, but this being a pretty young pair I pulled the spawning cone in hopes they wouldn't spawn again and raise this batch up and get some experience. Well, my plan sort of worked. The female laid again, but without a spawning cone available she opted for the heater laying on the bottom of the tank and just ended up creating omelets. Not long after that is when a thin area at the base of the males tail on both sides got eaten badly and I pulled him, so the female was pretty much forced to raise the batch up.
Thanks Jeff - See you Oct 6 at Josie's place for the inaugural meeting of the MWDA!
Thats a nice turq!
Thanks Eddie, I am EXTREMELY pleased with them. When they've had time to fill out a bit and you're back to having time to grade fish I might have submit my first fish to the university staff. Came home tonight to find they had deposited a very large spawn on the new swirled cone from Barb. Guess they had a little 4th of July celebration of their own.
