Arturo's Contest Fish
Hi everyone! first I'd like to start showing the fish:
The male is a "White Diamond" (that was the strain or name given to the fish I don't know any background of the fish sorry)
http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...0angel/2-1.jpg
The female is a "Velvet Red" (Is the one on the bottom)

Re: Arturo's Contest Fish
Why white diamond has yellow and blue on it? and female look like red melon to me ...
-
Re: Arturo's Contest Fish
Red melons don't have white faces rdiscus. Should get some red/whites out of this cross with maybe some random yellow thrown in. alot will depend on the genetics of the white diamond, but it does appear to be pb based (as is the velvet red).

I think your right Rick, and from what I know about white base they are as strong as pigeon. So if that is the case than the darker ones are what pigeon's that are really peppered? Something else I wonder is the male does look white base, but don't white base stay solid white I know they have the blue glow, but I thought other than that they were solid white. I don't know that is one I know very little about is white based fish, that is why I told Arturo to post it here to get other people in that know more about what this could be?

Re: Arturo's Contest Fish
Awesome looking fish no matter what name it is given. :) Keep the pics coming for sure.

I am pretty sure all it means at this point is the male (white daimond) is heterozygous for the white gene (only has one). The white based fish do have a tendeny to mask pepper, but it's to early to tell if the darker ones are heavily peppered. They could be as clean as a whistle, they just don't have the white gene.

There are several white based pb that are not solid white, red/whites and ogon yellows to name a few.

Looks like a velvet red :)
When I thihnk red melon I think of a fish like this:
http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...956#post873956
Alot of breeders will apply a different name when the face is white. In your example the breeder choose not to. Long story short, they are very simular (velvet red, red melon, etc) and it's all part of the name game.

The fish Arturo has he got from a Sponsor on SD and they were being sold as Velvet Red's. I would like to see an adult Red Melon that has a very white face and deep red body like Arturo's fish. Allot of red pigeons are allot alike but again if you look at an adult Red Melon they really look nothing like a Velvet Red IMO.

Re: Arturo's Contest Fish
Updates: First I'd like to mention that the fry is 12 days old, it was never feed with brine shrimp at all I usually do feed my fry with it but this time I was in vacation for a week plus they didn't get wc for 3 days after I got back (5th July) I was so busy so I just start feeding them with some flakes they start eating little by little so i decide to skip the brine shrimp and then i feed them my home made beef heart mix and they love it so here a video of them eating enjoy...

Re: Arturo's Contest Fish
Looking good Arturo! I have never seen such small fry picking at a cube of frozen beefheart mix at 12 days old! I am always so proud to see a spawn of discus eggs on one of my cones. Well done, keep up those wc's! I will follow your progress here,
Barb

Agreed; interesting to have them on beef heart this early
You might end up with some nice growth!

Re: Arturo's Contest Fish
Hi Arturo, congratulations for your fry!
I´m surprised about the beefheart on early stage but it seems to work...
how much water (%) do you change each day? do you match Ph before adding?

Thanks.. as I said before I got lucky this time, I try before with other fry from another pairs and they wouldn't it it ...

95% every night and the ph is usually the same straight from tap water..
