How long does it take for discus to fully grow
Hi,
If I have 8 discus in 110 gallon bare bottom tank. I feed them 6 times a day and do 40% waterchange every other day. 4 feedings of tetra bits and 2 feedings of Beef heart mix.
What should be the average growth rate? Also, how long before they will reach their full potential? I have had them since End of January, I bought them when they were 1.5 inches, they are 3 inches now. Does that seem like a decent growth rate?
Thank you,
Amol

Typicaly they grow fast for 6 months to a year then grow slower for several years. Heredity has something to do with it as does feeding and water quality. 1 1/2" to 3" since January is reasonable growth. Don T.

Crash,
Long time, no hear!
I think your fish are behind the normal growth rate curve. They can really benefit early from a mainly beef heart blend, Black worms, frozen blood worms and Tetra bits. It is the beef heart blend more than any other food that will produce the best growth rates. I would feed your discus mainly that and use the other foods for variety until they are five inches. Even at this late stage, if you begin to use much more heart you should notice a large increase in their growth rate.
