Hi,
I have been quarantining a bunch of tetras to put in my discus tank for the last 5 weeks now. The tetras developed ick shortly after purchased which I treated by raising the temperature and adding copper. I kept the copper in for a month like suggested and was wondering what's the next best corse of action in the quarantine process?
I'd do a solid week of water changes and observation. Do you see any other notable issues ?
No other issues they look very healthy, but wasn’t sure if I should treat with other medicines for deworming or other potential problems?
I think the next step would be to take a "volunteer" discus from your discus tank and put it in with the tetras, a discus you're least likely to miss should it succumb to illness.

Have you already mixed the two groups together ?
I've read articles about fish that overcome Ich can become resistant themselves but still be carriers of the parasite for other fish , so I thought I ask if you have experienced any troubles along the way.
+1 What would be the preferred treatment of Tetras of parasites? Praziquantel?

If your going to buy meds just to have on hand,some good ones are:metronidazole,malechite green/formulin(Quick Cure), Furan 2(Nitrofurazone)(no longer has Furazolidone in it),but they still call it Furan2.This should take care of most issues.Quote:

The first thing I do with any sick fish is to put it into a quarantine tank with 1 tablespoon salt/gal. Very high dosage, but you can see that the fish will immediately feel better. There are exceptions, but often high heat and salt will cure disease with zero side effects. That means having 1 - 2 heaters that can bring the temperature up > 95F.
The second thing is to mark your medication with a date and stick it in the freezer. Do not leave it in a warm, moist fish room.
Advanced hobbyists have these items ready rather than react to disease.

I agree with you on that there are no side affects of it... I like the idea of putting a date on the medications and placing it in a dark dry place away from high humidity. This is no problem here in Utah.....even with a big snow storm we are dealing with now...
