What age/size can discus become fertile?
I have a couple yellow Marlboro, or yellow golden crystal, or yellow something or other discus. They have seemed to form a pair. The female vent tubes are showing but she is only about 4.5-5 inches and less than 1 year old.
Can someone tell me an approximate age they become sexually mature?
Re: What age/size can discus become fertile?
Pigeon blood types, such as the yellow marlboros, typically mature around 12 - 14 months. Males usually take 3 months longer than females to reach sexual maturity. Non-pigeon types typically take 3 months longer. Blue diamonds, in my experience, can take 2 full years to reach sexual maturity.
At an early age, discus often display pre-sexual behavior - sorta like puppy love. It's very common.

I have a 5 maybe 5.5in Ring Leopard that just will not stop laying eggs on the heater after every water change. No one fertilizes them instead my 4in red melon just swoops in underneath and eats them all up. Not sure how old she is though

Domestics discus generally mature around a years old. Females mature younger then males, some times as young as nine months. ATM your egg laying female is providing treats for the rest of your discus.
