How to return shape after sickness

Hi..
A friend of mine had a female adult discus, she had lots and lots of spawns..
she was around 5"..here is a pic of her how she was..

few months ago, she got really really sick, everyone saw her how she was said that she is gonna end dead..but he kept on treating her and she recovered, this was around 5 months ago..but, unfortunately, colors and shape were completely changed..
she shrank to less than 4", her eyes look very big compared to her body, colors were all gone..
Now I took it from him, here is a recent pic of her

My question is, if I kept her away from males (because I know female discus will stop growing to lay eggs), and kept her in a clean water, and feeding well, is there a chance for the size and shape to be back? or is it a hopeless case?
