I've done both and haven't had any problems of the discus messing with them. Actually, it's the other way around, watching the little guys bowing up to the discus 10x their size to get food is hilarious. But my tank has decor and substrate. However, apistos tend to do better in 78-80F (26-27C) temps, but rams shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you buy rams from a good source. Most rams being sold in the US have crappy genes and aren't well cared for by the importers and thus die within a month or two of you having them.
I recently bought a couple electric blue rams from a generally respected area store. One arrived dead in the bag, and since I opened the bag before noticing, i will only get half-credit. The second one died in my QT the next day The temp was 82 and the pH was probably around 8, which is what my well water is and that I use for my discus. Would either of those conditions caused the death?
Who would you consider a good source? I see Yunite seems to be out of business.
Coral bandit on aquabid. I've had good luck.
I'm closer to him than you but the way he packs them is the best I've seen. He will ship over night & take of the free pritory price. Good luck.
Tom from Coral Bandit is a great guy and has very nice rams. He is breeding with crosses of the black ram. I just got a electric blue/black cross ram pair. Very nice
I also just bought 6 rams from Coral Bandit. Shipped to Michigan in Feb they all arrived in great shape and have been eating well for the past week. Granted I did upgrade the shipping to priority overnight. Very colorful for their size. He is also very responsive w excellent customer service. Would recommend.
Wow I am very flattered to be talked about so nicely.
I appreciate all the positive feed back my customers give me .
It is one of my daily goals in anything to put back more then I take .
Rams [and the ram Gods] have smiled on bandit and for that I am also grateful.
I thank you all !
Tom
